At Design MIX Furniture, one of our favorite ongoing collections is our petrified wood stools / side tables. They are the perfect organic modern meets rustic accent that adds true interest and character to any interior space.

The creation of petrified wood results from a process called permineralisation, which is when wood is buried beneath sediment or volcanic ash and is deprived of oxygen. This deprivation prevents the wood from decaying and instead the tissues are filled in with minerals, turning it to a very heavy stone-like material. It also transforms the material's appearance into something truly unique and striking with varying natural tones from black to brown to white, and flowing, organic grain and forms.

The undeniable beauty of these pieces is a testament to the incredible ways nature works.
